OLD “BARDOWIE” ESTATE £9628 FOR 206 ACRES SPIRITED COMPETITION SHOWN The largest attendance yet seen at a similar sale in the Waikato was present at the auction of the land and properties of the “ Bgrdowle H Estate, Cambridge, which was held at the homestead to-day. Rarely has such keen competition been displayed at a land auction, the 206 acres realising an approximate sum of £9628. The prices paid were a good indication of present land values in the Waikato. The “ Bardowie ” Estate was one of the oldest estates in the Waikato, and was occupied by the late Mr James Taylor fur over 56 years. The property to-day was sold in four lots, the first' to be offered being the homestead proper, comprising the large wooden home and approximately 21 acres. Adjacent to the Cambridge trotting course, this tree-shaded property was one of the best-known homesteads in the Cambridge district. Bidding commenced at £SO per acre, but soon reached £6B per acre, when it was knocked down to Mrs M. A. Moreland, of Cambridge. The total figure was £1487.

The second lot to be sold comprised a property of 75 acres opposite the homestead, all in good pasture, and subdivided into five paddocks. Bidding for this was started at £3O and went to £47 10s, the final bidder being Mr 11. Harrison, of TO Puke. The total sum was approximately £3562 10s.

Good Prices Maintained Lot three, comprising 59 acres, situated opposite the Hautapu factory and all in grass, with two old cottages erected on it, sold nt £35 10s per acre, the buyers being Messrs Burke 'Bros., of Hautapu. The total price was approximately £2094 10s. The last lot to be sold, a property of 51 acres situated on the main Hamll-ton-Cambridge highway, was knocked down at £4B per acre to Mr T. Taylor, of Hamilton, the approximate total price being £2484. Little interest was displayed In a property of 287 acres, situated at Puketaha and this failed to find a buyer.

The whole of the live and dead stock was also sold on the property to-day. The auctioneers were the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, in conjunction with Messrs Dalgety and Company, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., and Messrs Newton King. Ltd., Mr G. R. Wylie, senior auctioneer of the first-named firm, was in the rostrum.
