DEFENCE LEAGUE
SOUTH ISLAND CAMPAIGN BRANCH AT ASHBURTON (By Telegraph.—Press Association) ASHBURTON, Wednesday Sir Andrew Russell, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C. and Major E. Reeves organised and opened the National Defence League’s recruiting campaign in the South Island in addressing a small but enthusiastic public meeting here last evening.
The speakers stressed the awful price New Zealand would pay for unpreparedness if war came to the Pacific and it was unanimously resolved to form a local branch of the league.
