HAPPY EVENING

80TH BIRTHDAY A happy evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs Thomas Healey, Upland Road, Huntly, recently, on the occasion of Mrs Healey's 80th bhUiday, which was celebrated with a ianuiy gathering of children and grandchildren. The beautiful iced bulhday cake was made by Mrs T. (j. Stephenson, a niece of Mrs Healey, and was decorated v.i'h eighty candles, which were later in ilie evening lit by Mis Healey's two gra..dsons, Donald tna Martin Healey, and extinguished by the guest-ol'-lionour. Mrs Healey was the recipient of many beautiful presents. Mr iievor Healey imposed the various toasts during i.ne evening and on oeliulf of those presen'. Mrs S. A. Burke, of Auckland, the eldest daughter present, extended congratulations and best wisiies 'o the guest of the evening. Mr W. hot Icy also extended k cod wishes. During the evening, f* delicious supper was served.

LACE AND NET FROCK A pretty wedding of wide interest took place at St. Mark’s Church, Te Aroha, on Wednesday, February 15, when Joyce, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. T. Rowe, of Herriesville, was married to Gordon Harold, only son of Mr and Mrs R. H. Galloway, of Eastport Road. Canon G. W. Turner officiated and the wedding music was played by Mrs D. Burt. The bride, who was given away by her father, made a charming picture in a beautiful frock of needle-run lace and stiff net over satin. Cut on classical lines with high neckline, the tight-fitting waist flowed into a full skirt which formed a slight train. The long sleeves were light, fitting and were buttoned to the wrist. Her veil of embroidered net was caught to the head with a coronet of orange blossom, and fell in soft folds to form a second train. The bridal bouquet was of the shower variety, comprising cream roses, asters and maidenhair fern. The Attendants Misses Jean Rowe, sister of the bride, Marjorie Hamilton and Dell Galloway, sister of Ihe bridegroom, were the bridesmaids. They wore becoming frocks of salmon pink chiffon over taffeta. The skirls were very full and joined tight-fitting bodices made with puffed sleeves. Each wore a dainty pink veil uf net with a coronet of toning flowers ai.d carried bouquets of pink asters,'.dahlias and asparagus I fern. ! Mr Gordon Bell acted as best man j and Mr H. Rowe and Mr Cliff Parton i After the ceremony the reception | was belli at the Parish Hall, where | Mrs Rowe received her guests in a smart frock of satin marocain and black hat. Her posy was of seasonal flowers. Mrs R. H. Galloway wore black chiffon with lace sleeves and matching black accessories. She car- ! ried a p..sy of petunias.
