VISITIP'G CRICKETERS WANGANUI EASILY DEFEATED (By Telegraph.—Pi ess Association) WANGANUI, Sunday Sir Julien Cahn’s XI gained a big victory over Wanganui yesterday whenj they scored 291 for three wickets ij* reply to Wanganui’s score of 121. The Englishmen started batting at 3 p.m. and gave a polished display. They were never troubled by the Wanganui attack, but run 6 came slowly until Dempster and Dyson became set. They made 103 for the first-wicket partnership, and then Dempster was caught off a straight drive by H. Cuming on the boundary. Dyson Clean Bowled Mudge partnered Dyson, who advanced to 90 and then scored carefully placed singles to reach his century in 120 minutes. He was clean bowled by Thomas a few minutes later in attempting a bfir hit. The scoreboard then read two for 198. Hardstaff did not stay long, being smartly caught and bowled by Barton* a slow bowler, for 16. The score then stood at three for 219. Jackson and Mudge maintained an unbroken partnership until 6tumps were drawn at G p.m., Mudge being 72 and Jackson 39. The Englishmen had batted three hours for 291 runs, but there waa little spectacular cricket, the majority of the runs coming from well-judged singles. Scores:—
