FARM HAND’S DEATH
COLLAPSED AT MILKING EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST Further evidence relating to the death of Leonard Yendell (32), a farm hand, of Kaipaki. was heard by the coroner, Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., when the inquest was resumed to-day in Hamilton. In order that the medical evidence may be heard the inquest was adjourned sine die.
Fergus Craig Boyd, farmer, of Kaipaki and employer of Yendell, said he was at work in his cowshed when he was called by Lindsay Hogrwood, another farm hand. Hogwood was supporting Yendell who was on the floor of the cowshed. Boyd did not think Yendell had been hurt on the farm and he had never heard of him complaining regarding his health. Lance Lindsay Hogwood, a farmhand employed by Mr Boyd, said Yendell always appeared to be in good health. On December 28 he was called and went to the cowshed shortly
after 5 a.m. A little later Hogwood heard a short moan and looking around saw’ Yendell gradually sinking to the floor. A cow, which Yendell was about to let out of the bail, was stand* ing quietly and had not injured the deceased. * Hogwood assisted Yendell but he died almost immediately after having experienced great difficulty in breathing.
