SUMMER MEETING FIRST DAY RESULTS ODTAA WINB TRIAL BTAKEB SCOTLAND WINS BIG EVENT A large crowd attended the opening of the summer meeting of the Waikato Racing Club at Te Rapa to-day when fine weather, large fields and a good track made for a great day’s racing. Winner trained by owner. Ellerslie. Odtaa was responsible for a Stirling performance in that, after receiving a check apparently in the middle stages of the race to make him last entering the straight, he came with a great run to mow down the opposition and score attractively from Midland who looked to have the issue in safe keeping at the distance. Rival improved on his Rotorua form while Gamos performed creditably. (Meadow Rose, the half-sleter to Farland. Jumped out smartly from the number one position to lead along the back from Estro, Rival, Pleuron, Rey Lu. Telamon, Nttbmount, Gamos, Jean Quez and Odtaa. Meadow Rose still carried on the running across the top and piloted the field into the straight from Estro, Nithmount, Midland, Telamon, Rey Lu, (Rival, Gamos, Kotahi Acre, Jean Quez and Pleuron with Odtaa bringing up the rear. In a great finish Odtaa moved through the field and overwhelmed Midland inside the distance to carry to win by a length from the Te Rapa horee, with Rival one and-a-half lengths away third. There was a sensational occurrence early in the runr ng when Seven Seas fell at the first ience and Rozel, Donegal, Aramis, Hopalong, Star Artist and Cynical Smile came down in a heavp over him. Forest Lake dropped her rider at the nezt fence, leaving Windcress twelve lengths in front from Kittle, Arabesque, Manawahe, Loombination, Inness Lad and Master Musk. Windcress was live lengths out racing along the back Trom Kittle, Manawahe, Loombination, Inness Lad, Arabesque and Master Musk. Kittle made a faulty jump at the Teiice by the half-mile and lost a little giound, Manawahe then moving through to take command at the straight entrance from' Windcress, Kittle. Inness Lad and Loombination, with Master Musk and Arabesque well back. Windcress challenged strongly inside the distance, but Manawahe'held on to win by hair-a-length with Loombination seven lengths away third. Kittle was fourth, with Inness Lad nezt, followed by Master Musk and Arabesque. Time; 2.47 2-5. JUVENILE HANDICAP Of £250; two-year-olds; 5 furs. 3 4—NORA GREGOR, Mr F. Nora Gregor, who bad been galloping attractively at Hastings prior to corning up here, ran right up to her track promise by finishing on in most solid style to wear down Valerian inside the distance and beat him by half-a-length. Fozmond had every chance, while Brazen Bold was always handily placed. Valerian jumped out smartly to lead along the back from Princess Val, Gladynev and Fozmond. Sir Lysander then went to the front, and, approaching the turn, there followed Foxmond, Brazen Bold, Nora Gregor, Valerian, Karatoke, Princess Val, Our Jean, Silver Stick, Trig station. Fils de Vaal-s and Meadow. Nora uregor and Valerian fought ft out. the Hastings filly winning by. lialf-a-length with Fozmond a neck away third. But proved unequal to it in tile deciding stages. TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB ENTRIES CLOSE TUESDAY Nominations for all events of the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Autumn meeting, at New Plymouth on March 9 and 11. close on Tuesday, February 21, at 9 p.m. with the secretary (Mr C. B. Webster), Box 33, New Plymouth. An attractive programme haa been arranged, the Taranaki Cup carrying a stake of £SOO and the open aprint £2OO. On the first day the County Hack will be worth £2OO while features of the second day are the Twenty-fifth Taranaki Stakes of £4OO and the Paul Memorial Handicap of £3OO. This year the Juvenile Handicaps will be open to two-year-olds only and carry a stake of £l4O.
