FOREST ENDANGERED

SCRUB FIRE AT TAUPO (Special tO T'mos) TAUPO, Friday The scrub fire which has been working toward the State forestry plantation at Taupo since Monday has assumed alarming dimensions. On the right-hand side of the main highway from Taupo to Napier the fire is progressing in a north-westerly direction toward the forest. . On the left it had started to drive up the slopes of Tauhara Mountain, but a c-hange of wind to the north-west took the flames more toward the plantations. A large body of men was immediately sent to the danger area and energetic methods were adopted to resist the fire.
