INCREASE IN EXPENDITURE ACCELERATION OF PROGRAMME £70,000,000 IN THREE YEARS (United Press Assn.— Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Rec. Feb. 18, 1i.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Feh. 18. The accelerated and expanded defence programme of the Federal Government. which it was estimated would originally cost £63,000,000 over a period of three years, will probably cost not less than £70,000,000. The additional expenditure results from the recommendations of the In-spector-General of Military Forces, Lieutenant-General Squires.
