JAPAN’S DETERMINATION WILL STAY ON HAINAN WHILE RESISTANCE LASTS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright TOKTO, Feb. 17 The Asahi Shimbun says Japan will occupy Hainan Island as long as Marshal Chiang Kai-shek resists. The Japanese must remain in South China while Britain and France continue to aid China. Admiral Kanazawa says armed junks had been transhipping arms at sea and taking them to Hainan to await a favourable moment to run them to the mainland. This is now impossible. Copyright (Received Feb. 18, l p.m.) CHUNKING, Feb. 17 The new Governor of Chahar, General Shill Yusan. reports that the troops have broken the Japanese lines and are entering Inner Mongolia. When he was appointed Governor General Shili Yusan was 200 miles from the Chahar border and was ordered to end the Japanese occupation. Since then he has crossed the Tient-sin-Pukow railway and the Yellow
River and marched across the Hopei Province, meeting with continual resistance.
VALUABLE OIL DIBCOVERY LARGE-SCALE EXPLOITATION SUPPLY FOR THIRTY YEARS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 18. 1 p.m.) CHUNGKING, Feb. 17 The Ministry of Economics is planning large-scale exploitation of the newly-discovered oil deposits in the Singkian province and the Ningtsing mountains.
Foreign experts report that the oil is sufficient to supply the world for thirty years.
