OFFICERB APPOINTED GRANTS TO DISTRICT BRANCHES (By Telegraph—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Thursday The annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Architects was continued to-day. In the evening the annual dinner of the institute was held at Wain's Hotel. The conference will be concluded to-morrow. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr J. M. Dawson (Wellington); honorary secretary, Mr S. Natusch (Wellington) ; honorary treasurer, Mr W. J. McKeon (Wellington) : additional councillors, Messrs Robin Hood and R. G. Talboys (Taranaki- Wanganui branch), Mr A. C. Ford ** The architectural education committee, consisting of Auckland members, was appointed as follows: Messrs L. R. Piper. H. C. Massey, P. C. I. Crookes, R. G. S. Beatson. R. A. Lippincott and W. H. Cummer. A remit from Auckland, “ that the small house competition as at present constituted be discontinued and in place thereof a competition for the award of a bronze medal be instituted for the best domestic architecture in New Zealand with an approximate area of 2500 square feet as a limit to site,’* was carried. It was decided that the 1940 conference should be held at Wellington. The application of Mr E. H. de .T. Clere for re-admission to the institute was granted. When the question of the annual grants to district branches was considered, Mr H. C. Massey said that Auckland in particular would appreciate an increase because of the extra work it was doing. Other branches particularly Canterbury, were also helping students and it was only right, that greater provision should be made for them. It was decided that Auckland and Canterbury should receive £ls 15s and 15 per cent, of subscriptions and the others £5 5s and 15 per cent, of subscriptions. Private Practice The following resolution was carried : “That the council take immediate steps to approach the Government and local bodies in regard to architectural work, with a view to arranging that such work be carried out by registered architects in private practice, and, when circumstances warrant it, all major work to be competed for by competition by registered members of the New Zealand Institute of Architects under the institute’s regulations governii.g an-li.'te,-lui■■) competitions.'*
