Comedian in “Carefree”

Jack Carson, young RKO Radio contract player, will zoom to the top ranks of screen comedians in the opinion of Ginger Rogers, who recently starred with Fred Astaire in “Carefree.” Miss Rogers’ judgment has come to be highly respected in film circles, for up to date she has picked several young players as potential star or featured player material and has seen every one of them succeed. “Jack Carson made his film debut with me in ‘Vivacious Lady,’ more than a year ago,” said Miss Rogers. “He had been picked from the extra ranks by George Stevens, the director, and despite the fact that the role was small, he registered as a strong personality in every scene in which he appeared. He was with me again in 'rdage Door' and in ‘Having Wonderful Time’ and each time he impressed me more. “In ‘Carefree,’ he gets his first real chance as a comedian, and I am confident that he will register a personal hit when tlie film is released. Probably the thing which impresses me most about him, is his case and sureness in every situation. In addition, he has a flair for dialects and about ten different tones of voice. One of the cleverest acts he puts on for the amusement of company is a ‘March of Time’ in which he plays all the characters and produces all the sound effects himself, with his voice. “I feel sure that ‘Carefree’ will have the honour of launching a new screen comedian.”
