Woolworths’ Record Profits A preliminary statement, shows that a record net profit of £271.693 was earned Woolworths, Limited, in the year ended January 31. being an increase of £53.970 over the previous highest figures, says a message from Sydney. The final dividend is 11J per cent., makins 174 for the year, compared with 15 per cent, in the previous year. The net earnings compare with *£217,7 17 in the previous year. Hastings Man’s Death An inquest into the of Duncan McLean, who was found dead with a wound .in his throat at. his home on January 31. was opened before the district coroner. Mr G. Ebbett, of Hastings yesterday. A verdict "f suicide while inentall; leranged was returned. Evidence was )en that deceased was in financial difficulties and worried over the illness of his wife Although edceased had severely beaten his eldest ■ son before taking his own life, the bo> 1 stated in evidence that he had always j been a good father. The coroner was | of the opinion that deceased did not ! realise what he was doing at the time ' of the assault.
