Scroll of Hamilton Mayors The Hamilton Borough Council last evening decided, on the recommendation of the trading and finance committee, to order a suitable scroll with the names of all past Mayors inscribed on it and to hang the scroll in the Council Chambers.

Widow Imprisoned Margaret Wilson (54), widow, found guilty on two charges of illegally using an instrument was sentenced by Mr Justice Callan at Auckland yesterday to IS months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Schoolboys on Parade The boys from the Hamilton Technical High School, who are engaged on a week's military training at Rugby Park, marched through the town this morning to attend a screening of “ Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ” at the Civic Theatre. The girls of the school also attended the session, and arrangements have been made for pupils from the Hamilton High School to see the film to-morrow. Committeeman’s Resignation Stating that there seemed to be so many matters in which he was “out of joint” with the other members, Mr C. Lafferty tendered his resignation from the trading and finance committee of the Hamilton Borough Council when a meeting of the council was held last evening. The speaker had objected to the staffing conditions at the gasworks and stated that, under the conditions, he wished to be relieved of his position on the committee. New Use For Honey

The increasing number of uses to which honey is being put may be extended to ice cream manufacture. At the annual field day of the South Auckland branch of the National Beekeepers’ Association, held on the Claudelands Shov\ grounds yesterday, ice cream sweetened with honey was provided. The flavour was excellent and the ice cream was in no way different in appearance from that made in the usual way.

Taupo Scrub Fires Unchecked by light rain on Tuesday evening, the scrub fire which has been threatening the forestry plantations round Taupo is still burning freely. Fire broke out in a clun\p of pine trees near the Terraces Hotel last evening. With public works employees and the result of an appeal screened at the cinema, a large band of volunteer fire-fighters was organised and they fought the flames for 11 hours before the fire was suppressed.

Traffic Bridge Dangers Further reference to the dangers of the crossing at the traffic bridge and River Road was made at the meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening by Mr T. G. Reynolds, who referred to the location as the one definite danger spot in Hamilton. A recommendation from the transport committee that signs be erected in River Road and Bridge Street about 50 yaids from the bridge asking motorists to observe the right-hand rule was approved. Site At a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening a letter was received from the Waikato Maori Hostel Society accepting the council’s offer of the lease of two sections in Colombo Street at a nominal rental for a term of 21 years, subject to the renewal clause being satisfactory. It was also asked whether the remission of rates could be arranged.—On the motion of the Mayor, Mr 11. D. Caro, it was decided that the remission of rates would be dealt with from year to year. Parking By-laws Suspended The suspension of the by-laws fixing half-hour packing limits in all streets where these now apply until Garden Place was available for parking purposes, was decided upon at the Hamilton Borough Council meeting lasi evening. Mr F. Findlay, chairman of the transport committee, in moving the recommendation, stated that with the inconveniences consequent on the removal of Garden Place Hill he did not think it wise to enforce too many restrictions. After Garden Place was ready the whole question of parking in the town could be finalised.

Building Permits Refused At a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening the upplication of Mr W. C. Sanders for permission to erect a shop at the corner ol' Firth and Wellington Streets, opposite the children’s playing area in Steele Park, was refused on the motion of the Mayor, Mr IL D. Caro. It was felt that it was not desirable to erect a shop in the residential area, as there were other shops near at hand to meet the demand. An application for a permit for an electric welding workshop in Campbell Street was also declined when a letter was received from Mr A. Baker.
