COST OF LIVING £3 WEEKLY WILL FEED EIGHT (Times Air Mail Service) LONDON. Jan. 19 A family of four could live on canned foods' for about 30s a week. Miss Janet Bond, of the Canned Foods Advisory Bureau, told the Daily Sketch last night. “Since the crisis we have made a study of the possibilities of canned foods,” she said, “and. given a rationed portion of bread or some cereal, it would he quite possible to live on canned foods.” Her menu includes soups, salmon, carrots, spinach, milk, apples and stewed steak—all canned. “We have also thought out diets to ensure that proper nourishment is obtained.” said Miss Bond. "If you waul to be expensive you could lunch from turtle soup,' whitebait. chicken or partridge, asparagus mushrooms, celery hearts, young carrels. new potatoes, dessert figs ot Christmas pudding—out of tins.” Sir Auckland Geddes. personal assistant to A.B.P. chief Sir John Ander>on, made it clear yesterday that hireference to storing food and watei was not meant as a scare.
