CAR SOMERSAULTS
FRANKTON WOMAN KILLED TRAGEDY NEAR TAUMARUNUI (Special to Times) TAUMARUNUI, Sunday When a car driven by Mrs R. E. Gick, boarding house keeper, of Frankton, mounted a bank and turned completely over, halting on its wheels. Mrs Lydia Robson (59), widow, of 15 Devon (Road, Frankton, received head injuries which proved fatal. The accident occurred on the main highway about 12 miles north of Taumarunui, near the Ongarue turn off, and Mrs Gick was driving towards Taumarunul. It is stated that deceased suddenly grabbed the wheel, causing the driver to lose control. Mrs Robson was still In her seat when the vehicle came to rest, but she had suffered severe head injuries, which it is believed were caused by a heavy wooden box carried in the back seat to steady the car. This had been hurled about the car when the vehicle overturned, breaking a window and smashing a hole in the roof. Mrs Gick was not injured. The late Mrs Lydia Robson, who was aged 59 years, was born in Wellington and for the past 18 years had lived in Hamilton. She is survived by two sons and one daughter. They are Messrs Vernon Robson (Hamilton), Percy Robson (Taumarunui) and Miss Thelma Robson (Auckland). Mrs Robson’s husband predeceased her. OOLLIBION WITH A OAR YOUNG CYCLIST INJURED When he came into collision with a car while riding a bicycle on the Matamata-Morrinsville highway on Saturday evening, Alfred Bidois (16), son of Mr W. E. Bidois, of Okauia, received severe Injuries to the back. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital and his condition to-day was reported to be serious. The injured youth, who w 7 as a member of a party riding toward Morrinsville, is employed as a farm hand by Mr L. R. Harris, of Kiwltahi. The driver of the car was Mr Harold Howie, a farmer, of Kiwltahi. THROWN INTO DRAIN WOMAN’S LEG BROKEN Falling from a bicycle when turning on to the footpath in Vailou Street on Saturday, Mrs Marjorie Brain (58) suffered a fracture of the right leg. She was thrown into a drain about three feet deep. Mrs Brain was taken to the Waikato Hospital and her condition to-day was reported as satisfactory. YOUNG MAN DROWNED FATE WHEN SWIMMING (By Telegraph.—Press Association) ASHBURTON, Monday Kenneth George Leonard (23), single, labourer, was found drowned in the Ashburton River last evening. He was last seen alive by a small step-brother when swimming earlier in the day. The body, in a bathing costume, was found in 18 inches of water on a bar in the main stream. TRUCK STRIKES TRAIN DRIVER’S HEAD INJURIES (By Telegraph.—special to Timet) TAUMARUNUI, Saturday When it collided with a goods train from Taumarunui at a level crossing near Erua. 14 miles from Ohakune, a light motor-truck was wrecked beyond repair. The driver of the truck, Mr F. Freeman, an employee of the Wanganui Sash and Door Company, was thrown to the side of the line and suffered head injuries. He was taken to Taumarunui, where he received medical attention.
