H. 3.45 p.m.) OTTAWA, Feb. 10 Outstanding Canadians of all creeds united In tributes to the Pope. The Prime Minister, Mr MacKenzle Kinar cabled condolences to the British Ambassador at the Vatican. The Conservative Leader, Mr R. J. Manfon. stated the death was a loss to the people of all countries, particularly the poor and lowly. Mr W. Aberhart. Premier of Alberta declared that the Pope was an outstanding champion of world peace for 17 years. The people of the world had suffered a severe loss. The Primate. Right Rev. Dervvyn Owen, of the Church of England in Canada, said: “I wish to pay my tribute to a great man. who played his part with rare Christian courage.” PRAYERB FOR REPOSE 200 BISHOPS PRESENT PREPARATION FOR CONCLAVE (United Press Assn.—Elec. At 10 a.m. the Sacred College will meet to prepare for a conclave. M. J. Savage, has forwarded for transmission to the Vatican a message expressing the profound regret of the Government and people of New Zealand on the death of the Pope. The message continues: “The untiring efforts of His Holiness in the cause of peace and justice and his courageous devotion to duty despite failing health have won the grateful admiration of the whole world and the passing of His Holiness will be deeply mourned in this Dominion.” Mr Savage has also sent a message to the leaders of the Homan Catholic Church in New Zealand expressing the Government’s sympathy and paying tribute to the Pope’s life as a high example of devoted service in the promotion of moral principles and the cause of peace among the nations, Christian justice and social welfare. CATHOLIC CEREMONIES FORM TO BE ANNOUNCED I (By Telegraph.—Press Association) fth CHRISTCHURCH, Friday \ The time of the ceremonies in connection with the death of the Pope and the form which they will take will be advised by the Apostolic Delegate to Australia and New Zealand, Archbishop Panico, said Bishop Brodie, senior bishop of the Catholic Church in New Zealand in the absence of Archbishop O’Shea, the Metropolitan. Such ceremonies, he said, usually synchronised throughout the world as far as possible with the time of interment in Rome. Until advice was received from Archbishop Panico it would not be possible to announce the time or form of the observances. ' BENEFITS OF REIGN POSTERITY WILL REMAIN L. Connelly, administrator of the Archdiocese of Wellington, during the absence overseas of the Metropolitan, Archbishop O’Shea, when commenting to-night on the death of the Pope. “Posterity cannot forget his tireless efTorts for peace, and his unrelenting endeavour to save our civilisation through the virtues of Christian justice and charity. While Catholics will mourn the death of a father, all Christians will thank God for the benefits of his reign.”
