MAORI DIES
ASSAULT SUSPECTED FOUND NEAR ROADSIDE INQUIRY PROCEEDING Believed to have been the victim of an assault, a Maori labourer, Mr George Kahi (24), single, of Pukekone, who was admitted to the Waikato Hospital from Te Kauwhata, on tile evening of January 28, suffering fiom severe head injuries, died late yesterday afternoon. Mr Kulii was found at the side of Massey Road, Te Kauwhata, and a blood-stained piece of wood was later discovered nearby. Particles of wood were later removed from Mr lvahi’s wounds. Widespread inquiries Into the affair are proceeding, and detectives from Auckland are assisting. “MANY INQUIRIES” POLICE STATEMENT INQUEST ADJOURNED “There are many inquiries to make and I would accordingly ask for an adjournment sine die,” said Detective D. Watersori, of Auckland, at the inquest into the death of George Kahi or Whakamatatau Kahi Te Whaiti, held in Hamilton this morning before Mr C. K. Lawrie, coroner, of Pukekohe. The i request was granted. Evidence of identification was given by a brother of deceased, Thompson Kahi Te WbaiU, farm worker.
