WELLINGTON ROAD FATALITY PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY CAR (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday Wellington's long period of freedom from road fatalities ended this morning when Mr Phil Commons, of Sydney Street, Petone, was knocked down by a car on the Hutt Road and suffered a fracture at the base of the skull from which he died in the public hospital an hour and a-half late,r. Mr Commons, who was employed on housing work in Onslow Road, had alighted from a bus with another man and ran in front of the bus, making for the other side of the road. He was struck by a car coming from Petone. His companion escaped injury. The fatality brought down the city's road safety pennant which had been flying since December 5.
