REGULATION OF IMPORTS THE ORDER APPROVED (United fresi Assn.—Elec. TeL Copyr|£& (Received Feb. 10, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 9 Announcing that the Empire Meat Council, after a number of meetinga, Uie last of which was held oil Wednesday, failed to reach a unanimous conclusion regarding mutton and lamb imports, Mr 11. 11. Cross, Parliamentary Secretary of the Board of Trade, in the House of Commons moved that the import regulation order be approved which, he said, would enable quantitative regulations to be applied. Mr Cross added that the Government could look to Australia and New Zealand to co-operate in ensuring that any quotas agreed upon would not he exceeded. The Government had not yet decided what quotas were expected, hut he would he able to make an carl> .statement. The main object would be to secure stability in the market us tar as it was affected by imports, though Mic> were not the only factor, the market also being affected by the price of wool and the by-products of sheep. The House approved of the order without division. I The order referred to was adopted by the Board of Trade last month. It covers mutton and lamb, which are not to he imported into the United Kingdom except under Board of Trade license unless accompanied by a certificate ir-sued by an authority which the board recognise*.
