LABOUR SHORTAGE

POSITION IN GERMANY CONDITIONS REVISED EXTENSION OF HOURS (United Press Assn—Elec. Tel. Copyrlfbt) (Received Feb. 10, 12.45 p.m.) BERLIN, Feb. 9 Germany’s need for more labour for industry is dealt with in an official report in which there is a hint of longer hours and harder work. Last year’s new sources included 150,000, combed from the unemployed, and 670,000 mobilised from domestic employees and pensioners. Despite this it is estimated there is a deficiency of 1,000,000 workers in 1939 which necessitates rationalisation and the more intense use of existing labour.
