COLONIAL DEFENCE
GOVERNMENT WATCHFUL UNDER CONSTANT REVIEW (Official Wireless) RUGBY, Feb. 8 In the 'House of Commons the colonial Secretary, Mr Malcolm MacDonald, said the defence needs of Britain’s colonial dependencies were under constant review by appropriate sub-com-mittees of the Imperial Defence Committee. Reports on the measures taken during the recent crisis had been received from a number of the most important dependencies, and action had been taken upon them where it seemed necessary. In these circumstances he did not consider it necessary to ask for a report from all colonial Governments on the adequacy of the measures taken last September. Questioned on co-operation between the British and Netherlands Governments in defence matters in the Far East, Mr R. A. Butler, Foreign Undersecretary, informed the House of Commons that beyond the normal interchanges of information on technical points connected with defence matters which took place between various Governments, including that of the Netherlands, there had been no special conversations.
