FIGURES FOR DOMINION WHEAT, OATS AND BARLEY (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON. Thursday The estimated yields an acre of wheat, oats and barley for the 193839 season which have been compiled from reports by stock inspectors of the Agriculture Department throughout the Dominion, are published in to-night’s Gazette. The estimated yield in the North Island for wheat is 31 bushels an acre, for oats, 36 bushel®. and for barley, 38 bushels. In Nelson the yields are 28. 29 and 35 bushels, respectively: fn Marlborough, 39, 35, 39; in Canterbury, 31. 43 40; in Otago. 35, 42. 40: in Southland. 41. 51, 55. The Dominion acreages are 32. 45 and 40 bushels, respectively. These estimates may be compared with last season’s average yields, which were:—Wheat. 32.5 bushels; oats. 45.6: barley. 42.66. total wheat yield for 1938-39 should be 5,910.000 bushels, against an actual yield of 6.042,981 bushels for 1937-38. The total oats yiold is estimated at 2.410.000 bushels against an actual yield of 2.640.915 bushels last season: and the barley yield is estimated at 990,000 bushels, against an actual yield of 1,085,950 bushels last year.
