BRIDGE PARTY
MRS B. A. DOWNES ENTERTAINS Mrs B. A. Downes recently entertained at her home, Te Awamutu, about 20 friends at bridge. The drawing-room was tastefully decorated with large bowls of pink dahlias and tall vases of mauve hydrangeas and pink hollyhocks, and when play was over a delicious supper was served. Mrs Downes received her guests wearing a gown of floral georgette and was assisted by her daughter, Mrs Melville Newton, who wore a smart frock of turquoise taffeta. Those present were:—Mesdames E. Potts, J. O’Sullivan, A. Reese, J. Oliphant, H. Mandeno, R. Dawson, L. Teasdale, L. Armstrong, J. Hawkins, J. Roberton, W. McKenzie, Heath and Bluck; and Misses S. Empson, A. Hawke, J. Elliot, B. Lewis, J. Downey, M. Burke. The prizes were won by Mrs L. Teasdale and Miss J. Elliot.
