TROTTING

NAVY BLUE IMPRESSES TRIAL AT CLAUDELANDS EPSOM CANDIDATES PREPARE The course proper, with the trestles well out from the rails, provided excellent going at Claudelands this morning, all work being done the reverse way in view of the Auckland meeting on Saturday end Wednesday. Much useful work was accomplished, the most pleasing effort of the morning being that of Navy Blue, Our Peggy, Our War. and Sir‘Frank. Our War Broughton), Our Peggy (Smith'. Sir Frank (E. R. Smith) and Navy Blue M. Stewart) were associated over a mile and a-half. Our War led over the first half-mile in 1.9, but over the crncluding stages Navy Blue moved through very smartly to finish in front of'Sir Frank, Our War and Our Peggy, who were in close order. The full distance was run in 3.33. which was a pleasing performance. Navy Blue. Our War and Our Peggy are in excellent order for engagements at Epsom. Tumble Wor.ks Well Tumble, Northern Smile and Bingen Chief did useful work. The novice Tumble impressed and should show up at Auckland on Saturday. Hillcrest and Roma Girl were sent a mile and a-half in 3.42 and pleased by the manner in which they executed their work. The trotters Sir Tony (Yernall) and Arapai (E. R. Smith) were companions over a mile and a-half, Arapai standing up to his companion nearly 48 yards and finishing clear in 1.50. Captain Scott and Policy worked a useful mile and a-half, the former being eased up over the last quarter and Policy carrying on to record 3.50. Policy looks in good fettle for pending engagements. Peter Smith (E. R. Smith) was alloted solid work, being timed over one half-mile section in 1.8. He will lack nothing on the score of condition for Epsom engagements. Moira Bingen (Taylor) worked over two miles trotting in good style. Others to be worked were Loyal Direct, Olive King, King Country, Iron Man, Fleet Arrow, Our Flora, and several youngsters.
