The grand total of entries is once more a record, and not only will all ihc timehonoured displays of produce and manufactures occupy their usual prominent place, but the newer features will add fresh attraction to the stands and to the entertainments programme. Afer the phenomenal success which greeted its inauguration last year, the International Photographic Salon will be one of the most popular attractions I at the 1938 show. Excellent as was the response last year, rn«»*e entries | from an even greater number of coun - j tries have been received this year, and this exhibition of camera art may well I be considered the most cosmopolitan artistto display yet staged in the Dominion- Indeed, this section of the show bids fair to carry the name of Hamilton as far in the future as the excellence of the dairy produce exhibits has done in the past When on the subject of art. there may be mentioned the novel mangold and’ turnip ‘ personality” competition, an innovation this year, which is certain to arouse much interest—and probably amusement, and in which the contestants have been required to fashion the likeness of some wellknown public figure from a turnip or mangold. Departmental Exhibit Moat comprehensive venture of '.ts kind ever attempted at the show J»y the Department of Agriculture is the exhibit arranged this year, which :s certain to secure attention, especially from country visitors. One section of the display Is given over to exhibits dealing with the establishment of permanent pastures, including the methods of establishing pasp.oiuin ami the response of pastures to various forms of top-dressing and grazing. There is also a horticultural stand, where seasonal crops are featured, with instructional exhibits on disease control, and the various pha*»a of the fruit industry, while the investigations into the mastitis problem, lionevgradlng and bee-keeping are elsewhere demonstrated. Additional displays of interest in the glands include those of pig esreases entered for competitions, and of live fowls of good utility type. Modem and classical solo dancing displays will also be given, and for women visitors th*» annual fashion parades will be of special Interest. The innovation of the light steel bridge from the dais at the back of BleVlisloe Hall to the bandstand in the centre also enables such displays ts the nightly fashion parade comfortably to be seen by many more people than in past years In addition to all the special shows and attractions the u*ual yearly exhibits Indicative of the agricultural and industrial progress of the Waikato and of the Dominion are present V greater numbers than ever.
