Thirty-Second Winter Show

OPENED BY GOVERNOR-GENERAL ENTHUSIASTIC CROWDS AT BLEDISLOE HALL NEW HIGH LEVELS OF ACHIEVEMENT Marked by new high levels in entries and the general standard of exhibits which have come to be expected of each annual exhibition, the thirty-secpnd W r aikato Winter Show was opened this afternoon by the Governor-General, Viscount Galway. Attaining a new peak in the successful co-operation of town and country, this year’s show more than maintains the prestige of the Waikato and of Hamilton in presenting the greatest winter exhibition in the Dominion. Town and country are equally well represented in the cavalcade of exhibits and were equally well represented in the enthusiastic crowd which thronged Bledisloe Hall this afternoon for the official opening ceremony. The educational value of the show has always been rightly stressed and last year’s exhibition, despite its allround excellence, was marred by the unhappy necessity of excluding children on account of the incidence of infantile paralysis. This year, however, the children are a gain attending in force and the traditional spirit of carnival is once more characteristic of the annual pageant. The highlight of the exhibition is the display of butter and cheese in the dairy industry section which is still unparalleled anywhere else in the world and of special interest to the farming community this year, and to the consumer as well, is the new display of British and foreign cheese which competes with the New Zealand product on the world market. With the exception of the dairy exhibits, however, it is difficult to single out displays for individual mention since quality and quantity have again this year gone hand in hand.
