Shakespeare, Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, related at Liverpool how an Australian friend, during the illness of King George V. went by taxi to Buckingham Palace. The Australian read the bulletin at the gate, and found himself without money: “I am sorry,” he told the driver, “ I will give you my address.” The driver replied : “ Don't bother. He is my King as well as yours.”
