Customs Revenue. —A substantial Increase in the revenue collected by the Customs Department at Auckland was shown last month, compared with May. 1937. The greatest single increase was shown by customs duty, which rose from £244.413 to £285.276. With motor spirit and tyre duly added the advance from last year's £365.380 in May was over £61.000. to £366.865. Excise on beer amounted to £19.413. against £1 4.324. but sales tax receipts declined from £85.856 in May, 1937. to £81,557. For the first five months of each year, the general increase was from £1,715,352 to £i,826,8GU.
