TE RAPA GALLOPS
ELLERSUE PREPARATION A REBTRIOTED PROGRAMME M. J. CARROLL’S TEAM LEAVES (By "Martian”) The course proper, 20ft out from the rails, was available for fast work at Te Rapa this morning:, but despite the near approach of the Great Northern meeting, which opens at Ellerslie on Monday, the programme was rather a restricted one. The going was holding and little of exceptional interest was recorded. M. J. Carroll’s team was early on the scene, and while several were worked along they could not be timed owing to a light mist which obscured the majority of the pegs. However, all accomplished their respective tasks well and are in forward condition to contest engagements at the Auckland fixture. Hunting Blood, especially, looks a picture of condition and he should make a bold showing among the sprinters at Ellerslie. Bryce Street, Lucidus, Kilberis and Hunting Blood left later in the morning for Auckland. Innes Lad (R. Cotter) and Mangukaha (W. Thomson) strode once round but were not extended at any stage to record 2.14*. their first five furlongs being negotiated in 1.16. Innes Lad is to be ridden in Auckland engagements by N. C. Trillo. Light Comedy—Malaglgl Light Comedy (N. R. McKenzie) and Malagigi (C. L. Goulsbro) were associated over six furlongs in 1.23, both doing their work well throughout. Malagigi is to be ridden in tb# Cornwall Handicap by C. L. Goulsbro, who on Saturday will be riding at Otaki, where he will havp the mount on Llane. Senacre (R. D. Telford) and Philemup (R. G. Ozanne) bruehed over three furlongs in 425. Master Brierley (J. Winder) strode over a round, being brought home the last half-mile by Susan (Bootsma). The full journey occupied 2.6 and the final five furlongs 1.10. Master Brlerly executed his work in solid style and he should strip in good heart for pending engagements. On the first day at Ellerslie he is an acceptor for the Cornwall Handicap and Is not without a chance. Whirling (McKenzie) and Rollicker (Goulsbro) were pulling up at the half-mile in 54 4-ss. Both are bearing a healthy appearance. Prince Acre-Tradesman Prince Acre (Bootsma) and Tradesman (McKenzie) hit out together over five furlongs in 1.6 4-5, their first three furlongs being run in 38 2-5 s and the half -mile in 53$s. Prince Acre appears to have derived benefit from his racing here, where on either day he indicated a return to his best. With the easing of the tracks this member of the Winder stable should soon maka amends and it will not be on the score of condition if he fails to give of hli best in Ellerslie engagements.
Mio Fratollo ''Ensor) ran once round in 2.194. Etcetera (Kite) was to hav# accompanied him, but through a portion of his gear coming undone near th# three furlong peg he was pulled up. A dashing exhibition of Jumping waa given by Windsor Lad (J. McLaughlin) over eight flights of hurdles. Pulling hard all the way Windsor Lad took his fences in his stride and gained further friends for his Jumping engagements at the Auokland meeting. Riding Engagement# Riding engagements for the Auokland meeting include:— (7. L. Goulsbro. —Malagigi. N. R. McKenzie.—King Rey, Maori' Song, Melvanui. N. C. Trillo. —Innes Lad.
