The hurdles were erected on the outside or the course proper and the No. 1 grass track, on which the polea were 10 Teet out, was available ror rast work. The going was holding-. The best efforts on the flat were those -r or Kllonea, Land Girl. Valmlnt, Tybalt and » Crooning, while Jumpers to impress most were Jolly Beggar, Clarion Call and Silk Sox Ktlonsa and Land Girl were companions over six rurlongs In 1.21 1-5. They ran the first three furlongs In 4 1 2-5 s and • could have done a little better. Captain Bruce was allotted work but was not arter time. Knight or Australia (Tremaln) got to the end or seven rurionga in 1.36 4-8, Wee Pat (Clarke) and Bonny Belle assisting him. He ran his last six furlong* In 1.23 3-5. Wotan Handles Going Arter trotting round to the three furlong post, Wotan came home In *8 4-SS. He handled the going well. wa§ also timed to run the last three furlongrs of hl« work in similar time. All Irish finished clear or Windsor Lass over a round in 2.6 2-5. the last hairmile taking 58 2-ss. All Irish worked freely and pulled up wen. Crooning had the measure or Prtval over the final stages of six furlongs, which she ran In 1.22 3-5. tne ia«t hair-mile taking 555, and Croonlng’s effort was a good one. Jack Tar, after taking 40s for his first three furlongs, was timed to run six in 1.22 3-5, the final hair-mile taking 555. Tybalt Goes Well Ohma’ia and Te Hal were given easy tasks, taking 44s ror their last tnree furlongs. Tybalt went particularly well while running seven furlongs In 1.3 5 3-5. the last half-mile being covered In 84 3-s*. Waitaka led Valmint for the greater portion or a mile, nut Valmlnt headed him over the final furlong and was several lengths r]par at the finish in 1.50. The first half-mile was traversed in 55s and Waitaka was not unduly hustled toward! the end. Valmlnt pleased by his effort. Disturbed snaded Mai de Mer over seven rurlongs in 1.35. The first three took 40 2- and it was a good performance on the part or disturbed. He relished the going. Alyth completed six furlongs In l.ff 4-5, arter running her first three in 41 3- She was doing her work nicely et the end. Ground Swell Improves Ground Swell and Arlklra started off for a school over four hurdles m tne centre. They Jumped the ursi sarely nut Artkira crashed at the second and Ground Swell went on to complete the task alone, giving a much-improved exhibition. Arlklra continued on riderless over the last two rences. a Professional clearer rour or the same % hurdles sarely but <| d not have a great * amount or pace on. Base was allotted • similar task, nis snowing being very satisfactory. The first to school on the course proper were High >tar, Porotltl and Silk Sol, who were associated over six burdlM.
They raced in that order until crossing the top where silk Sox, who had been well back, moved up and vas In front at the last rence. They completed their task from hurdle to hurdle In 2-5, and, timed over the last four hurdles, they took 1.19 1-5. SUK Sox tlnlshed on very solidly and his snowing was Impressive. Jolly Beegar’s Display The only bout over the hill during the morning was that or Clarion Call, lolly Beggar, Hirangl, Tahae Mea and United. United ran off at the second rence or tHe double and baulked at the firet on the hill where his task ended. Clarion Call, Jolly Beggar ard Hirangi made the pace tnroujrb >ut. the tno giving a dashing display. They were bunched at the sod wall at the top or the straight on the llnal round but ir.e- clearing it. Clarion Call knuckled ov;r ar.d fell, and Jolly Beggar led Hirangi over the remaining fences with ranae Mea a long way back. Jolly Beggar gave a finished display and Clarion Call nad jumped attractively up to the timc« wnen he came to gner. lllrangi renced well but he also slipped arter clearing the second rence or the double the la*t time and was almost down but recovered cleverly. Visiting horses to do useful work were Cheval de Volee, Pirlpi, Huskie, Royal Mimic and inWiarcn.
