ART SALON

PKOTOGFtAPHIO DIBPLAV PRIVATE VIEW HELD Portraying pictorial photographs of other countries by some of the world's greatest artists, a private view of the New Zealand International Photographic Salon and social evening held by the Waikato Winter Show Association in the Concert Chamber last evening, prior to the opening of the show, was attended by a large number of guests.

A profusion of leaves in autumnal tonings and large punga fronds formed artistic and effective decorations in the hall, which had been arranged with * comfortable chairs and small tables. Ferns covered the back of the dais, the front of which was massed with branches of leaves in gold and yellow shades. The doorways were also framed with leaves and greenery. The guests were welcomed by the president of the association. Mr F. Bullock.

The exhibition was declared officially open by Mr H. E. Gaze, one of the judges, who, reviewing the outstanding pictures in the salon spoke of the high standard of the unique display. Before viewing the display the guests were entertained with a delightful musical programme, arranged by Mrs H. C. Ross, as follows: Violin solos, Miss M. Roe; 6ongs, Mrs Colin Wilson; elocutionary items, Mrs S. R. Ellis (Ohaupo) ; Highland dances, Miss R. Docherty; songs, Mrs C. F. O’Connor. The accompaniments were played by Mrs A. English. Mrs Hubert Hammond and Piper L. H. Cameron. A delicious supper was served later in the evening. The guests were received by Mr and Mrs Bullock, the latter wearing a frock of black chiffon velvet.
