Of the 19 players selected, fixe are from Waipa, four from Matamata, three from Hamilton, three from Cambridge, two from Taupirl, one from Morrinsville and one from Putaruru. Three playei/i have won Waikato honours for the first time. They are Haworth, the full-back, w’hose display* during the last two weeks, especially in the game against Putaruru, were impressive; G. Hawke, who will partner his brother in the five-eighths line and S. Harbutt a former New Plymouth High School player who is now at the peak of his form in leading the strong Cambridge pack. The selection occasions no surprise. Other players who were early consM| / ered to have chances of gaining Waikato honours this season have disappointed during recent games. The team should be a strong one with a better back line than was at first anticipated. The forwards are very strong and with Catley hooking for a heavy pack, Waikato should gain more than a share of the ball. FLAY AT PUTARURU TOKOROA DEFEATS HAUMAI (Special to Time*) PUTARURU. Sunday The first game of the season to be played by Huamal took placa at Henslea Park against Tokoroa on Saturday. Huamal, though lacking the football experience and combination of the other team, showed dash and spirited Individualistic play. Tokoroa showed better tactics by retaining the ball In possession instead or kicking and by combined forward play. Gabelensky (Tokoroa) was the outstanding forward in the neld, and secured four tries. His success was due to consistent and smart following up. For the first 15 minutes play was fast and Huamal scored from a penalty kick. Tokoroa evened with an unconverted try by Gabelensky and again followed this up with a strong forward rush, where Gabelensky again crossed. Robinson converted, making the total Tdkoroa 8, Huamal 3. The stronger team was combining better, especially In the backs, Lory running straight and passing well. Huamal kept Indulging in speculative kicks that gained them no advantage. The third score came when Jamieson crossed by the posts and Robinson converted. Enden and O. Gallagher also scored and play ended with the score: Tokoroa 19: Huamal 3. Mr Ensor was referee. Juniors: [ Putaruru 20, Arapunl 3.
