POEM IX COLOURED STONE.- —Begun by Kutb-ud-Din in the year 1200, the Kutb Minar is a gracefully tapering column. This fluted shaft of beauty rises to a height of 238 ft. Of red sandstone and white marble, the dark purple-tinted red of the base, tones gradually as it ascends, to a pale pink. The stone at the summit is of a deep orange.
