PLAY AT CAMBRIDGE SATURDAY’S RESULTS GAMES IN CLUB HANDICAP (Special to Times.) Cambridge, Sunday. A four-ball best-ball bogey competition was played at Camoridge on Saturday. Although conditions were all that could he desired, the cards returned were not exceptional. IL N. Freeman and J. Hannah led the field with a card or 4 up. This pair combined well, and aided by a run of three birdie threes by Freeman, they were able to hand in the winning card. Other good cards handed in were: M. Wells and B. Harper, 2 up; V. C. Hollis and J. Butler, 1 up; W. J. Ward and H. C. Luscombe, 1 up; VV. Rice ana H. Clayton, 1 up. Cambridge Handicap Throughout last week, further games were completed in tne Cambridge Handicap (match play). This competition, in which all the club originally competed, Is now at a very interesting stage. In some cases the quarter-finals have been reached, and In others the rourth round has been finalised. This competition has tended to drag for months in past years and the match committee is to be complimented on bringing It to such a forward stage In so short a time. Club captain, E. Nlckle (12) has reached the quarter-nnai by aereatmg l. Felsst, 2 up and 1 to play. H. Clayton qualified for the quarter-finals by accounting for A. G. Boyce to the tune of 6 and 4. An excellent game was seen between A. Clayton (24) and D. McCathie (6). Even to five holes from home, McCathie took the next three In a row to beat Clayton 4 and 2. A. J. Law (13) confounded the critics by defeating one or tne favourites, r. Alford (5) on the 18th green. Law, who some years ago was a force to be reckoned with, has slipped over the last two seasons and it is very pleasing to see the veteran producing good figures again. Ills victory must give mm prospects for winning this competition. Jonasson (13) continued his row of victories bv defeating N. R. Smith (22), 3 and 1. The former produced an 81 gross to piny well below his handicap. He Is certainly deserving of attention from the handicapper. W. Scott’s (13) winning run ended when he went down to H. N. Freeman (6) to the tune of 4 and 3. Scott’s poor green work led to his downfall. His game through the fairways Is excellent and It is a pity to see a young player railing on the green. Practice should etrect improvement In his game. Truman and Jonasson meet in the next round and ns both are playing well to their handicaps an excellent match should be seen. Professional Visit Two of Auckland's foremost coaches, a. .T. Girling and Alex. Murray, spent the week-end in Cambridge. They were inundated with requests Tor lessons. Both professionals spent two days giving lessons to club members. The club is greatly indebted to these men Tor sacrificing a week-end in sucli a manner and it is to he hoped that the lessons taught will be effective. The keenness or members in taking advantage of this opportunity emphasises the need of a permanent professional attached to the chin. Although Girling and Murray were too busy to play a round, they both commented on the excellence or the fairways, particularly with regard to the firmness or the ground, which was very welcome after the soft fairways on the Auckland
