MISHAP TO BRITIBH DEBTROYER THE DAMAGE NOT SERIOUS fOfficial Wireless) (Received May 28, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, May 27 The destroyer Amazon, which it was officially announced to-day was holed by a torpedo during exercises off Portland during the week, returned to Portsmouth under her own steam and docked for examination. It is understood that the damage is not serious, but the destroyer's plates were pierced just below the waterline and the impact opened the oil tank, a considerable quantity of oil being wasted. The accident occurred during torpedo practice. There was no personal injury.
