BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED A largely-attended gift evening was given In the Pirongia Memorial Hall on Wednesday, in honour of Miss Relne Bell, who is to be married shortly. The stage and supper tables were artistically decorated with autumnshaded flowers and berries. The guests were entertained with dancing interspersed with items as follows: Songs, Mrs Dallas and Mrs Sullivan; elocutionary items, Mr and Mrs Woods. Miss Bell wore a frock of blue floral silk voile. Mr Steel, who made the presentation on behalf of her many friends, spoke of the work Miss Bell had done for the district. Miss Ivy Sifleet made a presentation on behalf of the Hockey Club. Miss Sifleet said that Miss Bell had been a keen player and a willing worker. She presented her with a handsome ornament. The Rev. M. Sullivan, of Te Awamutu, presented Miss Bell with a chromium clock on behalf of the parishioners of St. Saviour’s Church in token of their appreciation of her work as treasurer for five years. A gold-shaded posy was received by the guest of honour from Lesley Bainbridge. Miss Bell and Mr Kerr were asked by Mr Steel to accept the many gift parcels. Mr Kerr suitably responded. Mr F. Beet supplied excellent music and the duties of M’s.C. were carried out by Messrs G. Bainbridge and J. Macky. HOCKEY DANCE The Pirongia Ladies’ Hockey Club held the first dance of the season at Pirongia recently. The hall was effectively decorated with the club's colours (black and red), and large sprays of holly. There was a large attendance, including visitors from surrounding districts. The Regent Dance Band from Hamilton supplied the music and Mr Gordon Bainbridge was M.C.
