Higher Pay Refused. —‘ I am definitely against creating class distinction between tunnellers and other workers whpn doinz the same job and 1 refuse. point, blank to pay them 5s an hour. They are not entitled to it and they are not gome to get it.” stated the Hon. R. temple, Minister of Public Works, in reply to a deputation of tunnellers from Beach Camp. Tikiwata, on the Napier-Gisborne line, who interviewed him with a request for the same payment on clearing slips as they received under contract lor tunnelling.
