MONEY FOR ROYAL FIXTURE SUBSTANTIAL INCREASES SHOWN Showing substantial increases in practically all departments, the prizes for several sections in the Royal Show to be held at Hamilton in October were •approved at the monthly meeting of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday, when the chairman, Mr P. H. Clarkin, presided. Several new classes have been introduced this year and this, combined with the fact that more attractive money is being offered, has raised the total. In the light horse section there will be competitions for dual jumping, the best pair of hacks, cob classes and another stallion class. The allocation for the light horse section was £377 (including the money for the heats in the Dominion jump), compared with £220 last year. The harness section was allowed £4O, against £2l last year, while the draught horse section has risen from £39 to £l2O. The money for the children's pony classes also showed an increase from £29 to
£74. Other prizes decided upon yesterday, with those for last year in parentheses. were as follows; —Fat cattle, £ll2 (£50); pedigree beef breeds (in which there was only one class last year), £lO5 (£6); Milking Shorthorn, £73 10s (£29); Jerseys, £73 10s £124); Friesians, £O3 (£31); Ayrshire*, £OO 10s (£39); Red Polls, £SO (no class last year) ; calf clubs section. £l7 5s (£15); stud sheep, £402 ~£ 4o}: fat sheep, £3O (£18): fat lambs, £l9O (£95); pedigree pigs, £l5B £101); special export pigs, £7B (£sl). The estimate for this year’s fixture was £2250, compared with £989 for last year's show. These prizes will be supplemented by donations from the various breed societies.
