BAKERY DISPUTE
ALLEGED VICTIMISATION TRIBUNAL BEGINS HEARING (By Telegraph.—press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday The hearing of a dispute in the Auckland bakery industry arising from the dismissal of a driver by G. K. Mathieson commenced this morning before a special tribunal appointed by the Minister. Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M.. is presiding, the Drivers’ Union secretary, G. Matthews, alleged that the driver who had been discharged had been victimised as he had been one of those responsible for calling a meeting several months ago to discuss conditions of work. Tne employers’ representative, Mr W. E. Anderson, said the dismissal was due to inefficiency and alleged that the man concerned was running a business in his employers’ time. Mr Anderson said Mathieson had been in business for 38 years and during that period could recall no serious representations being made to him by the Labour Department. Proceeding)
