SOLAR ACTIVITY

BIG GROUP OF SUNSPOTS NIGHT DISPLAYS PROBABLE (By TelerrapD.—Press Association} WELLINGTON, Wednesday During the last couple of days a very active group of sunspots has made its appearance, the eruption being unusually sudden- The group has the prodigious length of 100,000 miles. It at present is just off the sun's central meridian, and it is possible that during the next night or two there may be a repetition of magnetic disturbances and possibly a solar display. In addition to the huge group of spots there are quite a number of others, the whole solar disk being very active. The centres of two main spots are separating at about 18 miles a second, according to calculations made at the Dominion Observatory this morning.
