DANGER TO STOCK
FAIRFIELD BRIDGE SURFACE •' AS SMOOTH AS GLASS” The danger caused to stock by the slippery surface of the Fairfield Bridge was expressed in a letter from the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association which came before the monthly meeting of the Waikato County Council to-day. The chairman. Mr J. A. Sampson, presided and also present were Messrs P. E. Dingle. G. M. Watt, J. Primrose. R. G. Young. G. H. Walter, G. Smith, the county clerk Mr C. F. E. -Barton and the engineer Mr A. A. Woodward). The letter stated that the surface of the bridge had become as smooth as glass and, while excellent for motor traffic, it was dangerous for stock. As the bridge was the only stock route .t was hoped that the matter of improvement would be treated as urgent. The engineer stated that the work would involve a considerable amount of money, the total cost being in the vicinity of £2OO. The difficulty would be to get the tar to penetrate the present concrete surface. He had discussed the matter with Mr R. Worley, the Hamilton Borough engineer, and it had been decided that a primer which would form a bond between the tar and the would have to be evolved. It was felt by councillors that the stockholders should be given consideration and the engineer was instructed to investigate and report to the council.
