HAMILTON BEATS WAIKARE TELEGRAPHIC PLAY ABANDONED The Hamilton Chess Club, which j has abandoned telegraphic play In I favour of matches with the neighbouring clubs this season, opened its programme on Monday with a match against the Waikare (Te Ivauwhata) club. The match was of 20 boards and. although Hamilton won comfortably by 16 wins to 2 with 2 draws, most of the games were evenly contested. The visiting team included a largo' number of junior players who put up a good i flsht against their more experienced | opponents. j Results were as follows, Hamilton players being mentioned first : Fenton beat Saxby: Sale beat Pickering; Mears lost to Harper; Liddell beat Ballantyne: Hirst beat Stayte; Paterson beat Ritchie; £/.aw beat Harvey; Tompkins beat Gordon; Gundry drew with Zimmermann; Fink beat Zimmerman: Staines beat McFarlane; Burton drew with Thomas; Fowke beat Cambie; Griffin beat Suncle; Kimbel beat Gairdner; Griffiths beat Harper; Purdie beat Thompson; Dann lost to QuinteH; Boyd beat French; Reynolds beat Workman.
