FARMERS’ DEMANDS j A TRIBUNAL ADVOCATED (By Telegraph.—Press AssoHation) WELLINGTON. Wednesday The Farmers’ Inter-provincial Conference carried a remit as follows: “ That in computing • the price of dairy produce while the guaranteed price is in operation, an independent j tribunal should he set up presided over i by a Supreme Court Judge; that the j personnel shall be mulually agreed upon by a committee consisting of equal ! numbers of members nominated by the I dairy industry as sellers, and the Gov- i eminent as buyers: that the price ! should be determined by the tribunal from evidence placed before it, and that the proceedings and findings of the tribunal be made public. The price to he such as will (a) enable farmers to pay competitive rates for wages; (b) allow them a reasonable interest on the capital invested in their farms and stock; (c) enable them to meet the increased costs Imposed by the legislation, including tariffs; and (d) allow them a remuneration commensurate with the service they render, and with that obtained by other members of the community who render equal service. The resolution was carried unanimously.
