TROTTING GOSSIP FORM AT OLA U OIL AN 08 CAMBRIDGE MEETING AHEAD (By “Padlock") Splendid fields are carded for the Cambridge Trotting Club s winter meeting at Claudeiands on Saturday and with fine weather conditions on the day the club should experience a moat successful gathering. System of Betting The win and place system of betting will be in operation at Claudeiands on Saturday and the size of the Olds should ensure three place dividends in every instance. Chile Been Chile Bean has been making splendid progress in his work and the othen morning at Claudeiands he indicated that he will strip in splendid fettle for engagements at the meeting. The most impressive feature of Tuesday’s trial was the manner in which he was sticking to his work over the concluding stages of the effort. Chanoos of Tryment The partiality of Tryment for Claudeiands will claim her support in the Cambridge Handicap on Saturday. She has won on no less than three occasions here and improved as she is bound to be by her racing at the recent Waikato meeting she should * lack little on the score of condition when she goes into the starter s hands on Saturday. Noll Volo The trotting mare Nell Volo has not proved in foal when mated for ; the last two seasons with Gallant Knight, and she is likely to visit another sire, probably Sandydale, this year. Saturday's Starting Tlmaa The first race on Saturday at Claudeiands is due to start at 11.30 and as was the case at the Waikato meeting every endeavour is to be made to run the programme strictly to schedule. This can only be made possible, of course, by the co-opera-tion of the public and it is a matter for congratulation that no delay in the programme was apparent at the A recent fixture here. Moira Bingen Improved Moira Bingen has been trotting in improved style at Claudeiands since competing at the Waikato meeting and she will have her chance on Saturday to make amends for her defeat at the hands of Lady Bunker and Dick Redmond in the Introductory Handicap at the Waikato meeting the other weekOn Tuesday morning she was associated with Frontier Boy, Flash Bye, Gold Pointer and Rara Avis over a mile and a half and she pleased by sticking to her work in solid fashion over the deciding stages. It should not be on the score of fitness if she fails to give of her best in pending engagements. Dick Redmond Dick Redmond was responsible for a meritorious performance in the open- j ing event at Claudeiands on Saturday week. it was his best performance to date and indicative of early improvement. He broke under pressure 50 yards from the post, but the way he was finishing on lent strength to the Impression that he is on the upgrade. He is an acceptor for the Introductory Handicap here on Saturday and will elAim a firm following. Frontier Boy Frontier Boy did not have the best of luck in the running of the novice trotters event at Claudeiands the other week, a rather bad break at the turn putting a seal on his chances. Arf it was he was right up fourth at the end and he will need only to trot correctly at the approaching Cambridge meeting to possess an excellent ehance of making amends. May Make Amanda Peter Smith was supported down to cramped odds in his engagement at the Waikato meeting the other week and after looking to have the issue In safe keeping half way down the running he was caught in the last few* strides by the fast-finishing Kla Kaha. who registered his first success In years. E. R. Smith’s useful maiden is entered for the Bruntwood Handicap on Saturday and there will be optimistic support for him in the betting. He has taken no harm from , racing at the Waikato meeting and week’s unlucky performance would suggest he will be one of the hardest to dispose of. Can He Do It Again? When Kia Kaha won at Claudeiands recently it marked his initial success after a lengthy list of disappointments, pacing correctly throughout and finishing in s«lid style when asked for an extra effort in the straight.. In his present condition he may continue hts winning way and he should rot he without a following at the Cambridge meeting on Saturday. A Likely Improver Among the likely improvers engaged at the recenl Waikato meeling was the Takanini representative Neon Oro. who should be all the better for the racing she had here. While she rould make no impression on the placed division at the end she was close up and pacing soundly. Sir Frank Sir Frank has been hitting out in resolute style on the training tracks at Claudeiands since competing at the Waikato meeting and he is not wither* a chance in the Cambridge Handicap on Saturday. When right he is a useful sort and the fact (hat lie is hearing an Improved appearance will claim him support in pending engagements. Hori Bingen Hori Bingen failed to make much impression on his fle!4 tn the saddle t>\ ent at the last Claudeiands fixture, hut he should not he lightly discounted because of that failure in the summing up of the President s Handicap He has been doing his work well on the training track in the interim and should strip in good heart for the Cambridge meeting. Condition of Nervle’s Last Nervle'a Last is reported from Auck land to ha making splendid progress and is expected to he in tip-top order for the Auckland meeting Nervie’s * Last has twice won at two miles and he will have to be considered in the Adams’ Memorial Cup. His fine form at Addington commend# him.

Cambridge Handicap Prospect Cavan Chief is to contest the Cam-, bridge Handicap and he promises to be one of the hardest to dispose of. While he has yet to win over two miles his fine finishing efforts over the concluding stages of a mile and a half lend strength to the assumption that the extra distance should not prove beyond his capabilities. At the Christmas meeting at Epsom he won both the December and New Year Handicaps and again at Epsom more recently he was seen in winning veinHe is at home in any type of going. Transwell Transwell shaped encouragingly in the Tamahere Handicap at the Waikato meeting and any improvement on his fourth on that occasion will give him a chance in the Cambridge Handicap. He was right up behind the placed division and withal his performance indicated that better things can confidently be expected soon. A Successful Term The Yaldhurst trainer R. B. Berry has had his best season this year, winning the New Zealand Trotting Cup. five heats of the Inter-Dominion Championship, National Cup, Champion stakes, Great Northern Derby, Futurity Stakes and New Zealand Trotting Stakes. His total winnings were £12.682. the chief contributors being Parisienne £4295, Lucky Jack £3910, and Horse Power £1415. BANDUBKY In view of hla brilliant second from 36yds behind In the Tamahere Handicap at Claudeiands, Sandusky la likely to be the elect of bettors In the President's Handicap, which has drawn a field of 16. He would have won at the Waikato meeting If he had not broken at a critical stage of that raoe, but, even so, he will find tough opposition here. In the Cambridge Handicap The form of Levity, who is on the 24yds mark in the Cambridge Handicap, Is consistent, but not impressiveHe rarely runs a bad race, and that should endear him to place bettors. Derby Lu does not appeal, even though she is on the limit. She appears to be held safe by Baron Grand, who has had experience of the course, and. later, ran 4.31 4-5 behind Gay Sister in the Thames Cup, Gay Sister going on to further victory In the Autumn Handicap, two miles, at the last Waikato fixture.
