MEETING OF COUNCIL The Mayor. Mr R. Coulter, M.P., presided on Tuesday at the May meeting or the Te \roha Borough Council, Messrs G Hedge. F. T. Halltgan, XV. T. Dale, V. G. Hamilton, XV. C. Kennedy. W. E. smltn, J. L. Otter. XX*. A. Clark, and the clerk, xir F. XX’. XVlid, also being present. The Mayor and newly-elected councillors were installed by the returning offlcer. Mr F. XX’. Wild. X'otes or sympathy were passed to the relatives or the late Mr John Rohlnson and Mr XV. T. XX T . Hughes. A communication was received from the Treasury relative to the supplementary loan or 10 per cent on the municipal offices loan or £.-,500, stating it would be necessary to apply to the Local Government Loans Hoard Tor consent. —Application to he made.
The No. 2 District Highway Committee wrote In regard to the annual review or main highways. The board had given consideration ’to the prospect or the extension nr the system by way or additional declarations, but finds It will be unable to approve any general increase in mileage. Application should thererore he confined to adjustments considered to have special merit.—Received. The state Advances Corporation notified that £SIBB 16s r,d had been rp/nltted to the council's bankers in connection with the municipal olfires loan, lor which debentures had been received. More state Houses The Director or Housing Construction notified that the Department proposed at an early date to Invite tenders lor another group or houses to be erected at Ruakaka, Te Aroha. and desired to have the assurance that the road would be formed ami metalled at an early date.—The necessary street work to be undertaken. The Minister or Labour rorwarded the Gazette notice prtvlalming that Saturday hair-holiday closing in Te Aroha would commence on June 6. Public Swimming Bath The Chamber or Commerce forwarded a copy or a resolution sent to the Hon. F. Langstone asking ror definite inrormatton relative to the establishment or a public tepid water swimming barn in the Domain and asking the council's co-operation.— Acceded to. The manager or the abattoir reported that In April U 3 cattle, :»sl sheep. 10 lambs and 10 pigs had been slaughtered, the Tees totalling £lO4 15s 3cl. The following were appointed to the various committees: —Legal and llnance, the Mavor. Messrs Hedge and Ilalligan; works Messrs Hedge. Smith and Dale; electric light. Messrs Hamilton and Hedge: quarrv. .Messrs Dale, smith and Hamilton, building. Messrs XV. A. Clark. XV. C. Kennedy and W. T. r»al*-: hand and social. Messrs IJaMigan. J. L. utter and XV. C. Kennedy; abattoir. Messrs smith and Hamilton. The Mayor is a member or all Mr Hedge gave notice to move at the next meeting: ‘That tin* meter reader lie counts rroni consumers who desire to pay at the dour. •
