WORK AT CLAUDELANDS CAMBRIDGE MEETING AHEAD TRE FINAL TRIALS CHILI BEAN IMPROVED (By “Padlock) The going on the outside of th« course proper was dead at Claudeland* this morriing when the final trials of local and a number of visiting horses took place. While a certain amount of interesting work was accomplished there was nothing of outstanding note recorded. The best efforts of the morning being those of Chili -Bean, Peter Smith and Our McKinney. Moira Bingen (E. R. Smith) and Frontier Boy (Garnett) finished practically abreast in front of a bunch, comprising Rara Avis (Wood), Masterman (Verna 11), Flash By (Wheeler), Heather Glow and the pacer. Gold Pointer (McNickle). At the conclusion of a mile and a-half in 3.59 Moira Bingen did her work well and she promises to strip in good fettle for engagements at the meeting. Frontier Boy, who put in a bad break at the half-mile, but quickly settled down again, also shaped in promising style and providing he keeps his feet on Saturday he is not without prospects in the Leamington Handicap. A Useful Effort A useful effort over 1* miles was that of Bonnev Pointer, Elsie Hamlyn (Mitchell, jun.) a Great Parrish mare (E\ R. Smith), Harlow (Mitchell) and Wall Street (McAlister), who completed the distance in 3.11, the last half-mile occupying I.lo*. They finished practically on terms and all did their work in good style. Concliffe Maid (Edwards) worked usefully over a mile and a-half but was not after time. The trotters Moko Girl (Wood) and Reception (Wheeler) were associated with Baron Grand (Garnett) and Sir Frank (E. R. Smith) over a mile and a-half in 3.56. The trotters went to the front in the early part but Baron Grand and Sir Frank took their measure over the deciding stages to be clear on the post. Sir Frank did hie work well and promises to make a forward showing in the Cambridge Handicap on Saturday. * Our McKinney (Yemall) wa6 in front o* Tryment (Smith), Our Peggy I F. Smith) and Nawton Parrish (McNickle) at the completion of a mile and a half in 3.’0. Our McKinney, who is making steady progress, should be in tip-top order for engagements at the Epsom gathering next month. Chill Bean Well Chili Bean (Mitchell) was doing a shade better than the maiden Peter Smith (E. R. Smith) with Adversity (Mitchell, junr.) close up over a mile and a half in 3.50. Our McKinney, mile being cut out in 1.10. It was the best of the morning over the distance and both Chill Bean and Peter Smith are in forward condition for racing at the Cambridge fixture. Native Princess (Smith) was not asked for her best over a mile and a half.
Cherrill (Mitchell, junr.) hit out over a mile and a half alone In 3.58, the last half-mile being negotiated In 1.16.
Kentucky Frank (E. R. Smith) occupied 3.52 for a similar essay.
