DEFENCE OF BRITAIN
A MOTION REJECTED PROPOSED MINISTRY OF SUPPLY (omctal Wireless) RUGBY'. May 23 The proposal for a Ministry of Supplv was rejected in the House of Lords! and a motion that it was essential in the interests of national security- that a Ministry of Supply for the three defence services should be established forthwith was defeated by 54 votes to 12. The Marquess of Zetland, replying Tor the Government, announced that orders for all aeroplanes required to fulfil the accelerated air defence programme had been given, and the reserves of essential raw materials had been secured. He declared the Government was of the opinion that the change of organisation suggested in the motion would retard production.
