iCLAIM FOR £6OOO DESTRUCTIVE FLAX FIRE WELLINGTON, Tuesday. J Responsibility for the fire which festroyed a large area of flax at in November last was disputed in the Supremo Court to-day, yvhen the Wellington Flax Company Claimed £SOOO damages from Sir Kenneth Douglas, owner of the adjoining property, whom they alleged yvas responsible for the fire. The allegation was that a fire lit in the drain Was lit at defendant's instigation to clear the road along which he was accustomed to have stock taken and •that it was a most dangerous place to *tart a Are, the country being all peat. It was mentioned that the Are was 'still alive and broke out sporadically. About 300 acres of Aax had been destroyed of which about 50 would have to be replanted. AGAIN SUCCESSFUL SECOND MEDIUM BATTERY Although they have only been in existence for two years, the Second Medium Battery, Hamilton, under the command of Major E. F. ClaytonGceene, have won the Efficiency Trophy twice in succession, advice having been received this afternoon of their success again this year.
