BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS SEVERAL COMMITTEES APPOINTED (Special to Times. TE- AWAMUTU, Tuesday The first meeting- or the newly-elected Te Awarnutu Borough Council was held last evening when tbe Mayfcr, Mr G. Splnley, presided. Also present were Messrs J. c. Montenore, J. sterrltt, C. J. Spiers, H. M. Andrew, \v. J. North, the town clerk (Mr D. Bockett) ana the borough roreman (Mr H. H. Close). Committees were appointed as follows: Works, Messrs Montenore (cnairman), J. North and Rowan; finance, Messrs sterrltt, Spiers and Brookes; beautifying society, Messrs Spiers, Maxwell and the Mayor (chairman); band representatives, Messrs Andrew and Sterrltt; library committee, Messrs Maxwell and Brookes; baths committee, Messrs Maxwell ana Andrew. Mr Montqtiore was re-appointed de-puty-Mayor; Te Awarnutu Fire Board, Mr H. c. Rainey; chairman, and .Mr North were re-elected members. Objection to the erection or the traffic filter at the lntersetion or Sloane, Alexandra and.Arawata streets was voiced In a petition, containing 274 names, which came before the council. The public Works Department erected the filter as a means of testing the advisability or erecting a clock tower at tne intersection. It was decided to Torward the petition to the Public Works Department with a recommendation that the filter be removed until the completion or the widening or Sloane Street, lt was relt that arter that work -was completed the filter should be given another trial.
