TALLOW, HEMP AND FRUIT THE ENGLISH MARKETB WELLINGTON. Tuesday The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated May 20:— Tallow. —Moderate business has been done on spot, prices being unchanged. Hemp.—Manila: The market is steady, with slightly better demand. •'K” grade sold June/August shipment, £l9 15s. Sisal: The market is quiet but steady. May/July shipment sold at £l6 17s 6d, June/August shipment, £l7. New Zealand: There is nothing to report. Fruit.—A steady demand continues. The following are the market values of sound-conditioned fruit of the varieties mentioned, the range of prices generally representing the difference between the several grades and/or counts. Variable conditioned fruit of similar varieties proportionately less in value. Granny Smith apples, 10s 6d, 13s; Sturmer, 10s, 11s; Cleopatra, 10s 6d; Alfriston, 10s, 10s 6d; Delicious, 8s 6d, lls; Cox’s Orange, Jonathan, 8s 6d, 10s 6d; Dunn’s Favourite, Lord Wolseley, London Pippin, 9s, 10s; Golden Delicious, Bs, 9s; Comice pears, lls 6d, 18s 6d; Winter Nelis, 10s 6d, 12s 6d; Josephine, 10s 6d, lls 6d; Beurre Bose, 10s, lls: Winter Cole, 9s, lls; Conference, 9s 10s; Clairgeau, 9s, 9s 6d.
CAMBRIDGE BTOCK BALE Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Cambridge sale held yesterday:— A good yarding of pigs came forward with a fair yarding of oattle. The total yarding of pigs changed hands under keen .competition and prices were firm on late quotations. Cattle met a ready demand and prices were firm to advance of late rates. Quotations: — Cattle. —Good quality fat Jersey cows, £6 5s to £6 17s 6d; ditto fat Jersey heifers, £6 10s to £6 17s 6d, medium ditto fat Jersey cows, £5 to £6 ss; ordinary fat cows, £4 to £5; good boner cows. £3 to £4; ditto store cows, £2 10s to £3; potter bulls, light, £3 18s. Pigs.—Medium baconers, £3 5s to £3 10s; medium porkers, £2 to £2 6s; small ditto, 30s to 365; good store pigs, 22s to 28s; medium ditto, 18s to 225; small. 14s to 18s; best slips, Ids to 14s; best weaners, 10s to 16s. CLEARANCE AT PIAKO The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, report having held a clearing sale on account of Mr J. R. West, Piako, yesterday, when his whole herd of approximately 65 Jersey dairy cows was offered before a good attendance of buyers. Competition for early calvers showing quality was steady, and met with a ready demand, while more backward cattle were not keenly sought. Extra choice Jersey cows, early calvers, made £l2 10s to £l4 10s; choice Jersey cows, July calvers, £lO to £ll 10s; August calvers, £8 to £9 15s; more backward, £6 5s to £7 15s; aged and inferior, £5 to £5 15s; aged bay mare to £l9 10s; four-year pedigree Jersey bull, 9Jgns.; store pigs to 22s 6d; slips, to 13s.
